As part of my A2 coursework this year, I am required to produce a film review of my short film. In order to get a rough idea about what a professional film review looks like I have had a little flick through two magazines of the film genre - "Empire" and "Sight and Sound", whose pages are mostly filled up of film reviews for current films being released in the cinema. Each magazine has certain templates and colour schemes which tend to remain relatively similar for each review - although it is the slight variations I need to take into consideration regarding my genre and the nature of my film. After flicking through both of the magazines, I came to the conclusion that Empire probably had my preferred layout, as it is a well-known modern magazine where all the latest popular independent (and blockbuster) films are advertised and discussed. In order for my film review to look exactly like it has come from an issue of Empire, I will need to take particular notice as to their fonts and styles. As well as this, I will need to analyse content and language use, as it will not only need to look good, but read good!
