Costume 1, Scene 1, The Park
The polka-dot dress I feel can be seen as a timeless outfit. Originally, it comes from the 50's, an era which I would be happy with my audience interpreting my film as being set in. The dress is not too dressy, making it ideal for playing Frisbee in the park. The shoes are smart and playful - like the characters personality in this scene of the film. As this scene will be filmed out side (in autumn/winter!), I understand that my actor may be cold. My film is not actually set in winter, so I don't really want my characters dressed for it. However, I have some plain black cardigans and my actor is welcome to wear tights or knee-high socks - these would not effect the costume in anyway.
Costume 2, Scene 2, The Lounge
Blue daisy-print dress with collar
The daisy dress is quite bright and quirky, like my character. The flowers represent her girly side and the collar shows that she is smart and intelligent. The shoes are pretty classic, just plain and black. This outfit is quite dressy, as though the character has really made and effort for her second date. She wears these clothes during the scene where the characters are watching television in the lounge. I feel that the location and costume combination works well as it shows their relationship is still new/fresh in that she's well dressed with smart shoes even just for lounging around in front of the TV - this shows she wants to impress the boy character.
Costume 3, Scene 3, The Kitchen
Brown polka-dot vintage dress
Worn brown brogues
This dress I actually brought from a vintage shop so I am hoping it will give off the "timeless" effect! The brogues are actually just from my local H&M store but I have worn them so much they look pretty warn, making them look old/vintage. Brogues are classic shoes which were in fashion many decades ago but have come back. I am hoping the latter will make for an ambiguous time setting of the characters. Katie will wear these clothes in the last scene, which will reinforce the time setting to the audience for the end of the film.
Sizing - Katie is smaller than a lot of the costumes, which could be an issue. However, I have purposely chosen particular styles of dresses that are designed to fit the majority of sizes. All of the latter dresses tend to be of the sixties style, coming in at the wearers waist and flaring out. In order for the dress to fit properly, it will need to come in at Katie's waist - I feel that a belt warn here should do the job sufficiently.
