Content [Film Review]

Seeing as I have decided to base my language more on Empire, I sort of need to have similar content, as Little White Lies magazine tends to cover more difficult/specialist topics (such as camera styles) a lot more, as well as frequently using jargon - I want my review to be an easy-read for all abilities, as not many members of my target audience will have taken a media studies course! After reading a couple of reviews from Empire, I have concluded that there is a basic structure that each one follows:

  1. A brief mention of the director - how he or she 'did'/how it differs to their other films (locations/cast/genre/plot-line)
  2. The main plot - including the character of which the actors play (this is very chatty and colloquial presenting personal, subjective views - often in the form of sarcasm!)
  3. Talks about if it achieves its purpose - it's funny, heartbreaking, sad etc..
  4. Running time of the film- if it is stretched out, could end sooner etc..
  5. How the actors have performed - to their usual standard etc..
  6. Any key criticisms - not funny etc..
  7. Comments on how the film left them feeling - uplifted etc..
  8. The "verdict" - a brief comment and the star rating given (obviously for me I will be using the anticipation, enjoyment and in retrospect technique as shown in Little White Lies)

I will want to follow this sort of structure, and make sure I cover all the content in order to make my film review conventional. Some of this may be difficult to achieve as obviously my film is a short film - but I will still need to follow a rough structure.
