I need music!

I keep changing my mind regarding music! In my last post about it, I claimed that I wanted to create a relatively quirky sound through perhaps using a ukulele. However, since I have been editing and watching my film over and over, I have come to realise that it hasn't turned out quite as quirky as I had wanted it to seem - this is through a combination of the actors and the general tone of the film. I attempted to put quirky music to it using Garageband but I just wasn't feeling it, and nor were many of my classmates who I had asked for feedback. My main worry about not having quirky music was that my film would be taken too seriously and that the music may be a little cheesy and cliché - which is what I am trying to avoid! However, I have been playing around with Garageband in order to try and create something which is somewhere between the two, not too quirky and happy but not too over-the-top cringey. I feel that so far this has been going well, through choosing to use guitar strumming tracks rather than the typical 'romantic piano' ones.

So far I have:

  • Two lots of strummed guitar tracks which I changed from it's original 'C major' key to 'E flat major' which is more of an upbeat and 'sweeter' tone
  • Created a track myself with horns through using the 'keyboard' on Garageband and experimenting with different notes, seeing what either harmonized or were similar to the guitar chords
  • Put the track together through having different instruments coming in at different times in order to build the music up along with the storyline. The first guitar track plays, and the second track is added as the title comes in 20 seconds later (this gives the film an 'introduction'). When the sketching starts the horns then come in. This continues throughout the film, and I am planning for instruments to be added and taken away to either strengthen or weaken the thickness of the music according to the mood (e.g. is is a big moment or does the music need to reflect the character thinking?)
