The Animatic

Now I have finished scripting and storyboarding, I have started to create my animatic which is a combination of the two. This gives me a rough clue as to what the film will look like. The animatic involves taking photographs of my storyboard shots, uploading them onto the iMovie software and adding durations, camera movements and transitions so that they can be played as a video of shots - this is how it will be with the real footage. I will also need to add my musical score to the visual animatic in order for it to be tailored to when, and how long, shots play for. For example, I will know when the music will need to climax.
Today, I have completed all of the latter, apart from the music, which I am planning to sort out first thing tomorrow. I have been told that my music needs to be composed and not taken from unsigned websites or similar. One option is to ask a musical friend to do this, although from previous experiences I have experienced first-hand how difficult it is to ensure reliability of that person. So instead, I am going to try to dig out my somewhat lost GCSE Music talent and compose it myself! To do this, I will use GarageBand, which I find to be relatively easy to both navigate and compose with. I will be looking to create soft, yet quirky music - most probably piano and acoustic guitar (as favoured by my target audience).

At the point I am at at the moment, my animatic only adds up to 4 minutes and 47 seconds, so it is evident that I will need to go through and lengthen the durations of some shots. Through past experiences I have added many more shots on the day of filming that I had not initially noted on my storyboard - so I am not too concerned about not filling the space. Despite this, I will attempt to amend the situation tomorrow.
