Filming: Day 1

Relaxing at the park after filming scene 1
Ed all ready to go in his costume
Today I filmed the three scenes (or memories) of my film. Over all I would say it all was relatively successful and things ran smoothly. It took just over 4 hours which is just under the time I had originally predicted it to take. The weather was A LOT better then predicted, with clear, blue skies for much of the time I was filming the park scene. It was not too cold either, meaning that my actors were able to wear their costumes with no problems. There were a few changes today - firstly, my characters did not wear the shoes they were originally going to wear during the indoor scenes. Being honest, I forgot, but there are worst things that could have been forgotten - shoes are not usually worn indoors anyway! I also changed the key part in the kitchen scene. Originally, the female character was going to be splashed by the male character slamming the plate down. However, after many attempts, this was not working very well, and all looked very set-up and fake. Instead, I now have something which I feel works a lot better - Ed drops the plate on Katie's hand, injuring her. In many ways I feel that this is a lot better, as it seems more serious than simply being splashed. This is better for this last scene as it really is the "final straw" for Katie.
Alphabetti Spaghetti time!

Despite everything running so smoothly  Many shots did require multiple takes! There was a lot of continuity errors such as leaving coats in the background, and Ed wearing his glasses in some shots and not in others! Looking back, I should have made sure these sorts of things didn't happen through checking for unwanted objects in the shot before filming.

THE BIG SHOT. The main shot I was worried about was the one where I had planned for Ed to drop a plate of alphabet spaghetti on the sofa, and on Katie. As it was going to drop and make a mess, this needed to be successful within the first take! Luckily, all this worked out just fine, with the food being dropped on the leather sofa (which was easily cleaned off afterwards), and on Katie's hand. Thank goodness!

On Wednesday, I will be finishing off by filming the rest of my scenes - in the office, and the sketches. I have pretty much planned all of that, with the camera, tripod, costume and props all ready to go. If this runs as smoothly as today it all should be a success!
