As short films need to convey meaning through a short duration, the latter idea is a way for the creator to merge fiction/dreams and reality in a shorter space of time. Although I will not have the resources capable to create something similar to the shots shown below (example 1), I have come up with a more basic, although effective, way to manipulate this idea into something that will create meaning, quickly, in my short film. The story can be told through drawings, drawing across memories and "how it could have been" through the use of an eraser and pencil.
Typically, my film would follow the theme of heart-break - a story of a boy who is too shy to tell a girl he loves her, before it's too late. He contemplates telling her, but never does, leaving him heart-broken when she goes off with someone new. Although a cliche story, I am hoping the "sketch" idea will give it more originality. The boy can draw locations, objects that reminded him of her, and moments he remembers, each of the drawings coming to life, and then converting back to sketches that the boy then rubs out and re-draws to create the ideal ending - a happy ending, that never really happened.
